Alison J. McGriff was born in Wilmington, Delaware and graduated in 1994 from Spelman College cum laude with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland, School of Law in 1997. Prior to graduation she served as a member of the University of Maryland School of Law Moot Court Board. During law school she also interned with Robert M. Bell, the first African American Chief Judge for the Maryland Court of Appeals, the state's highest appellate court.
Upon graduation, Ms. McGriff practiced in Baltimore with one of the city's oldest insurance defense firms. Subsequently, she took an associate position with an insurance defense firm in Washington D.C. Since 2002, Ms. McGriff has served as an attorney with the Washington office of the Cochran firm. During her legal career, Ms. McGriff has successfully tried bench and jury trials as well as negotiated multimillion dollar settlements on behalf of clients in personal injury and medical malpractice cases.
Ms. McGriff is an active member of the District of Columbia and Maryland state and federal bars and holds memberships in the Maryland State Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar; District of Columbia Trial Lawyers Association and the American Trial Lawyer's Association. In addition, Ms. McGriff is a member of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
