Charles "Chuck" James, II is a native of Mobile, Alabama. He began his undergraduate studies at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, but later transferred to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he earned a Bachelor of the Arts in History and a Masters of the Arts in Higher Education Administration. He obtained his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. While in law school, Chuck was elected Vice President and Senator of the Student Bar Association. He was also a member of the school's Frederick Douglass Moot Court team.

Upon graduation from law school, Chuck worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Mobile, AL. He is currently employed with Cochran, Cherry, Givens and Smith, P.C., focusing his primary areas of practice in wrongful death cases, tractor-trailer litigation, personal injury, medical malpractice, consumer fraud, and products liability.

Chuck is admitted to practice law in the Northern, Middle and Southern United States District Courts for the State of Alabama, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

In 2008, Chuck was recognized by the Alabama Association for Justice as a "Champion of Justice." He is a member of the Alabama State Bar and is on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Association for Justice. He also serves as Vice President of the Capital City Bar Association and is on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association. Chuck is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and attends Resurrection Catholic Church.

He is married to Lloria Munnerlyn James, who serves as the Chief Deputy District Attorney for Wilcox County, AL.
