Truck Accidents in New Orleans, Louisiana

America relies on trucks to move important products across the country on a daily basis; consequently, it is no surprise to find there are over 3,000,000 trucks traveling our roadways at any given time. This reliance on trucks and truckers increases the likelihood you will be involved in an accident with a truck. Mesothelioma in New Orleans, Louisiana

Exposure to asbestos fiber in the workplace is a major factor in the incidence of mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that affects the mesothelium, a thin layer of cells that lines the internal organs of the human body.

Pleural mesothelioma affects the lining of the lungs and accounts for 70% of the diagnosed cases of the disease. The dust created from working with the asbestos fiber settles in the lungs and abdomen if inhaled or swallowed. The irritation caused by the dust to these organs is thought to lead to a diagnosis of mesothelioma.

Workers who may encounter asbestos fiber on the job are widespread throughout the workforce and may be found in mining operations, factories, ship building installations, insulating manufacturing, construction sites, automobile repair, steel mills, oil refineries and cement plants. The risk of contracting mesothelioma increases when you are exposed to high levels of asbestos for long periods of time.

If you or someone you know has been employed in one of these fields and has been experiencing chest or back pain, coughing, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, shortness of breath, abdominal pain or difficulty breathing, you may be experiencing the symptoms of exposure to asbestos fiber and mesothelioma.

By contacting the experienced mesothelioma attorneys at the New Orleans, Louisiana office of The Cochran Firm today you can discuss your legal rights and learn whether you are entitled to financial compensation.

Auto Accidents and DUI in New Orleans, Louisiana

Driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and drugs is a major cause of automobile accidents. Legally obtained prescription medications must also be included in this category of driving under the influence because prescription medications can also affect your ability to safely operate an automobile.

Commonly used intoxicants that impair the ability to drive and are a major cause of automobile accidents include, but are not limited to, alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, heroin and prescription medications such as Vicodin, Percocet, Valium, and Xanax. These substances affect motor skills, impair and distort vision and slow normal reaction times.

The crime committed most frequently in this country is driving under the influence. An American is injured every two minutes or killed every thirty minutes by an impaired driver.

When you become the victim of an impaired driver, not only is the driver responsible for your injuries and losses, but the party or entity that supplied the alcohol in the case of a drunk driver, may also be held liable. This is referred to in legal terminology as "dram shop liability."

If you live in New Orleans, Louisiana and you or someone you care about was injured or killed by an impaired driver, please contact the experienced DUI accident attorneys at the New Orleans, Louisiana office of The Cochran Firm today to schedule a confidential consultation at no cost to you, to learn about your legal rights in this matter, and how you can obtain the compensation you deserve.

An AHA Conference was held in New Orleans where a study was presented about a blood thinning medication called Plavix. Doctors have been prescribing this medication to patients who had received heart stents. Plavix thins the blood to prevent blood clots around the stent in the artery. Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect

Of the thirty six million people over the age of 65 in the United States, it is safe to say many of these older adults will require assisted living or nursing home care in the future. While many facilities provide excellent care and are staffed with devoted people dedicated to their chosen profession, some older adults find themselves in less than ideal circumstances. They are vulnerable to various forms of neglect and abuse and are often unable to communicate their fears to visiting family and friends.

The estimates of cases of nursing home abuse and neglect are staggering. It is estimated that over one million older adults are the victims of nursing home abuse and neglect every year. The consequences of nursing home abuse can be devastating often resulting in malnutrition, dehydration, debilitating medical conditions and even death.

When an instance of nursing home abuse and neglect is alleged, many complex legal issues arise. These issues could involve premises liability, medical malpractice or wrongful death. Nursing home residents have the legal right to receive humane and dignified treatment at all times.

If you live in New Orleans, Louisiana or the surrounding area and someone you love has been the victim of nursing home abuse or neglect, please contact an experienced nursing home abuse attorney at one of The Cochran Firm’s numerous offices today to schedule a confidential consultation at no cost to you to learn about your legal rights.

Girl Injured in Dog Attack

A ten-year-old girl was injured in a dog attack in Vicksburg, Mississippi on Wednesday, February 11. The girl was reportedly knocked down and bitten by a 9-month-old pit bull. The dog's owner was not present at the time. Reports say the dog followed a neighbor out of the house when he stopped to pick up mail. According to the owner, the dog is not typically vicious or aggressive, and often plays with the neighborhood children. The injured girl received bites on the leg, mouth and hand. After treatment and three stitches, she is recovering at home. The dog will be held by Animal Control for two weeks, where experts will evaluate her temperament.

The control of dogs is often an issue in premises liability cases. While dog attacks are usually associated with dogs that have been trained to attack or to defend territory, a normally docile household pet can cause injury if its surroundings aren't properly controlled, or if it isn't properly trained to interact with strangers or children. Failure or refusal to restrain an animal which then injures someone opens the owner to a personal injury lawsuit.

The attorneys at the New Orleans, Louisiana office of The Cochran Firm specialize in personal injury and premises liability cases, both of which could apply to a dog attack case. If you or a family member has suffered injury due to a negligent pet owner, or if you need help with any other kind of personal injury case, please contact The Cochran Firm’s New Orleans office for a confidential consultation. We can evaluate your case and get you started on the road toward fair compensation.

Crash of Barksdale B-52 Traced to Mechanical Problems

The crash of a Barksdale Air Force Base B-52 just off the shore of Guam last July has been traced to a malfunction of the aircraft. Five Barksdale AFB crewmen died in the crash.

The U. S. Air Force released the results of their investigation on Friday morning, February 13th. The plane, part of the Department of Defense's South Pacific continual bomber presence, was preparing to do a flyover for a parade marking the anniversary of Guam's independence. The B-52's stabilizer trim was incorrectly positioned, making it impossible for the plane to move out of a nosedive. The plane crashed twenty miles off the coast, killing everyone on board.

Accidents related to vehicle malfunction sometimes lead to personal injury lawsuits. If a malfunction is due to poor manufacture or insufficient maintenance, the liability for the accident can fall upon those who constructed the vehicle or those who are supposed to keep it properly maintained. Even when the vehicle is manufactured and maintained by the government, compensation could be due to you if you have lost a loved one due to someone's negligence.

If you have lost a loved one, or you or a family member have been injured due to someone's negligence, please contact the experienced personal injury attorneys at The Cochran Firm. The attorneys at the New Orleans, Louisiana offices of The Cochran Firm also specialize in aviation litigation, as well as other areas of practice. We can evaluate your case and help you pursue compensation for your losses.
