Students from Maynard Jackson High School when get a chance to see the movie \u201cSelma\u201d on Thursday, thanks to the law firm founded by the late Johnnie Cochran.<\/p>\n
The students will also participate in a social media campaign highlighting their thoughts on current social justice issues. Local television personality and Cochran\u2019s daughter, Tiffany Cochran, will emcee a 15-minute, pre-movie presentation.<\/p>\n
The movie, \u201cSelma\u201d traces the work done by Martin Luther King Jr., and others \u2013 including locals Andrew Young, C.T. Vivian, James Orange and Ralph David Abernathy - to secure voting rights for African Americans in the United States. The movie was nominated for Best Picture and won an Academy Award for Best Song.<\/p>\n
The students are scheduled to see the movie at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Landmark Theatres in Midtown.<\/p>\n
