More than 3000 lawsuits and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fisherphillips.com\/covid-19-litigation\">claims had been filed by mid-July<\/a>. In some COVID 19 lawsuits, complainants allege their health and safety has needlessly suffered, while other cases are based on economic harm:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Multiple class action lawsuits against the Chinese government claim it was negligent in trying to contain the coronavirus<\/li>\n<li>Businesses are suing insurance companies for not covering losses due to COVID 19<\/li>\n<li>Travelers who contracted the virus have sued cruise lines, airline and hotels for negligence<\/li>\n<li>Many workers are filing workers\u2019 compensation claims or <a href=\"https:\/\/thecounter.org\/arkansas-pressure-tyson-foods-governor-hutchinson-protect-workers-covid-19\/\">lawsuits for being exposed to the virus while on the job<\/a>, or claims related to layoffs or denial of leave<\/li>\n<li>Health care companies such as hospitals and nursing homes are being sued by patient families, or by employees who claim they were denied proper protective equipment<\/li>\n<li>Shareholders allege that certain companies failed to act responsibly to avoid stock market losses due to the pandemic<\/li>\n<li>Some plaintiffs have filed suits against state or local governments for acting negligently in their efforts to control the outbreak<\/li>\n<li>Consumers have sued companies over cancelled events, evictions, price gouging and products that falsely claimed to cure coronavirus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lawmakers in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/governor\/covid-19.html\">some states<\/a> have already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2020\/07\/01\/tennessee-gov-bill-lee-covid-19-lawsuit-protection-medical-workers\/5357517002\/\">passed legislation to grant some protection from lawsuits<\/a> to healthcare facilities, and other states are considering similar moves.
