{"id":1980,"date":"2021-08-02T19:34:33","date_gmt":"2021-08-02T19:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/?post_type=sub-practice-areas&#038;p=1980"},"modified":"2021-08-02T19:34:33","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T19:34:33","slug":"neurological-treatment","status":"publish","type":"sub-practice-areas","link":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/neurological-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"Neurological Treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the post-acute phase of a TBI, patients are often followed by a treating neurologist.&nbsp; A neurologist performs many functions in TBI patients.&nbsp; In addition to&nbsp; monitoring the patient\u2019s symptoms, the neurologist performs routine complete neurological examinations to determine whether the patient is suffering from any further physical neurological deficits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the neurologist may order MRI\u2019s or CT scans to determine if the patient is suffering from any ongoing brain atrophy or atrophy of parts of the brain.&nbsp; He may also prescribe and refill medications to address ongoing problems.&nbsp; Some of these medications may include anti-seizure, headache, and pain medications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The neurologist may also test for anosmia (loss of sense of smell and taste), on a periodic basis to determine if any such condition is worsening.&nbsp; Sleep studies may also be ordered by the neurologist to assess any disturbances in the pattern of sleep brought on by the TBI.&nbsp; If such disturbances are detected, medications or other equipment may be prescribed to address these problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, a neurologist may order and review neuropsychological tests to help establish the nature and extent of ongoing cognitive deficits.&nbsp; This can help guid the patient and the family in terms of assisting with identified problems.&nbsp; The neurologist may also order counseling to assist with psycosocial issue or problems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":1982,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","_seopress_titles_title":"","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":""},"categories":[78],"class_list":["post-1980","sub-practice-areas","type-sub-practice-areas","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-treatment-of-traumatic-brain-injury"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sub-practice-areas\/1980","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sub-practice-areas"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/sub-practice-areas"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1982"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1980"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1980"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
