{"id":2421,"date":"2021-08-31T13:53:24","date_gmt":"2021-08-31T13:53:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/?post_type=sub-practice-areas&#038;p=2421"},"modified":"2021-12-10T18:28:37","modified_gmt":"2021-12-10T18:28:37","slug":"truck-accident-statistics","status":"publish","type":"sub-practice-areas","link":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/truck-accident-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Truck Accident Fatalities and Injury Statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>According to a report from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the following data was reported for fatal and injury crashes involving large trucks.&nbsp; In 2018 there were approximately 499,000 police reported crashes involving large trucks in 2018.&nbsp; Of those, 121,000 crashes resulted in injuries and&nbsp; 5,096 truck crashes resulted in fatalities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This translates into 13.5 fatal large truck crashes per million people in the United States, which is a 27 percent increase from the 10.6 fatal large truck crashes per million people in 2010. On average, in 2018, there were 1.12 fatalities in fatal crashes involving large trucks.&nbsp; In 90% of those crashes, there was only one fatality.&nbsp; The majority (82%) of fatalities were not occupants of the large truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority, 62 percent, of fatal large truck crashes involved two vehicles.&nbsp; Single-vehicle crashes, including pedestrian, nonmotorized vehicles and bicyclists, made up 21% of all fatal crashes and 13% of all injury crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fatal crashes involving large trucks often occur in rural areas and on interstate highways, with 57% of all fatal crashes involving large trucks occurring in rural areas and 26% occurring on interstates.&nbsp; Thirteen percent of fatal crashes occurred in both categories, rural, interstate highways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collision with a vehicle in transport was the first harmful event in 73% of fatal crashes involving large trucks and 84% of all injury large truck crashes. Overturn\/rollover was the first harmful event in 4 percent of all fatal crashes involving large trucks and 2 percent of all nonfatal crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vast majority of fatal crashes (83%) and non-fatal crashes (88%) involving large trucks occurred on weekdays (Monday through Friday). Thirty-six percent of all fatal crashes and 23 percent of all injury crashes occurred at night during the hours 6:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, 30% of work zone fatal crashes and 10% of work zone injury crashes involved at least one large truck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2423,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","_seopress_titles_title":"","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":""},"categories":[102],"class_list":["post-2421","sub-practice-areas","type-sub-practice-areas","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-trucking"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sub-practice-areas\/2421","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sub-practice-areas"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/sub-practice-areas"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/2423"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2421"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2421"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
