{"id":2434,"date":"2021-08-31T14:10:53","date_gmt":"2021-08-31T14:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/?post_type=sub-practice-areas&#038;p=2434"},"modified":"2022-09-14T15:31:35","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T15:31:35","slug":"driving-hours","status":"publish","type":"sub-practice-areas","link":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/driving-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"Are Truck Drivers Obligated to Log Driving Hours?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yes.&nbsp; The Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration has issued specific regulations that require a motor carrier to require each driver that is used by the motor carrier to record the driver\u2019s duty status for each 24-hour period using a method that they have approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The motor carrier must require its drivers to record the driver\u2019s duty status by using<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>an electronic log device<\/li><li>an automatic on-board recording device<\/li><li>manually recorded on a specific grid.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The duty status shall be recorded as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201cOff duty\u201d or \u201cOFF\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cSleeper berth\u201d or \u201cSB\u201d (only if sleeper berth used)<\/li><li>\u201cDriving\u201d or \u201cD\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cOn-duty not driving\u201d or \u201cON\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For each change of duty status, the name of the city, town, or village, with State abbreviation, shall be recorded.
