{"id":2538,"date":"2021-09-07T18:17:37","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T18:17:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/?post_type=sub-practice-areas&#038;p=2538"},"modified":"2021-11-12T16:09:48","modified_gmt":"2021-11-12T16:09:48","slug":"trip-fall","status":"publish","type":"sub-practice-areas","link":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/trip-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"Trip and Fall Accidents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>According to the World Health Organization, (WHO), falls are the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths worldwide.&nbsp; Each year the WHO estimates that 684,000 individuals die from falls globally. 37.3 million falls each year are severe enough to require medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adults older than 60 years of age suffer the greatest number of fatal falls.&nbsp; According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), each year, 3 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries.&nbsp; Another 800,000 are hospitalized because of a fall injury, most often related to head injury or hip fracture.&nbsp; Falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Common causes of tripping are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Obstructed view<\/li><li>Poor lighting<\/li><li>Clutter in the way<\/li><li>Wrinkled carpeting<\/li><li>Uncovered cables<\/li><li>Bottom drawers not being closed<\/li><li>Uneven walking surfaces<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Statistics show that the majority of falls happen on the same level resulting from slips and trips.&nbsp; The remaining 30% are falls from a height.&nbsp; The risk of tripping can be reduced by making sure walking areas are clear from clutter and obstructions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, make sure that the things you are carrying or pushing do not obstruct or prevent you from seeing obstructions, cables or cracks that pose as a tripping hazard.&nbsp; Use a flashlight if you enter a dark room where there is no light.&nbsp; And always keep your flooring in good condition.&nbsp; Never leave cords or cables exposed on walking surfaces in high traffic areas.&nbsp; Never place or leave anything on stair treads.&nbsp; Finally, always watch where you are walking when you encounter a sidewalk or other area which may be in disrepair or pose a tripping hazard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2540,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","_seopress_titles_title":"","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":"","_seopress_analysis_target_kw":""},"categories":[105],"class_list":["post-2538","sub-practice-areas","type-sub-practice-areas","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-premises-liability"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sub-practice-areas\/2538","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/sub-practice-areas"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/sub-practice-areas"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/2540"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2538"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cochranfirm.com\/new-orleans\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2538"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
