Elite Rhode Island prep school St. George\u2019s School recently agreed to settle sexual assault lawsuits<\/strong> with dozens of past students claiming to be victims of abuse at the hands of former school staff. Victims allege the abuse dated back as late as the 1970\u2019s and continued up until around 2000.<\/p>\n Located in Middletown, Rhode Island, the posh boarding school educated America\u2019s wealthiest families like the Astors and Vanderbilts. The $58,000 a year institution is renowned for its sprawling campus, known as The Hill, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.<\/p>\n According to reports, six faculty members at St. George\u2019s School were involved with the abuse of at least 26-former students. At the center of the events was the school\u2019s principal, Tony Zane, who told at least one victim she was suffering from a mental disorder and suggested the victim deal with the atrocities herself in lieu of alerting law enforcement or seeking administrative punishment.<\/p>\n The undisclosed compensation will help school sexual assault victims get the counseling and services needed to cope with the repeated abuse they suffered in their formative years as they try to put their lives back together.
