The Cochran Firm of the Mid-South managing partner Howard Manis filed a lawsuit Tuesday June 22 against Scootie’s One Stop convenience store near the University of Memphis and its owners.
According to the lawsuit from Nettles’ family, neither the store owner nor Buie tried to help him after he was shot. It alleges Buie acted recklessly, with “malice and gross negligence for which the store owners are responsible.”
The complaint also claims the store owners should have known Buie wasn't supposed to be carrying a firearm as a convicted felon. Police said Buie had a previous guilty plea for burglary 20 years ago, and in the preliminary hearing it was revealed that the gun used by Buie was provided by the employer.
The complaint further alleges that the store owner nor Buie sought medial attention for the victim after he was shot in the chest.
