General Motors has issued a nationwide recall for more than 19,000 Saturn Sky automobiles produced from 2006-2007. The recall is part of a national recall of 1.6 million vehicles produced by GM which contain defective ignition switches.

Switches installed in these Saturn cars can be accidentally switched off, shutting down the vehicle while drivers are on the road. GM failed to manufacture the ignition switch with a sufficient amount of torque to keep it from changing position when pulled down by a heavy key ring or bumped by a driver’s knee. Without power to the Saturn Sky, the power steering, power brakes, and airbags are no longer operational, leaving nearby drivers at the mercy of an out-of-control vehicle.

GM ignition switch compensation fund

General Motors has created a $400 million compensation fund for victims who have been hurt or killed because of their defective ignition switches. If you or someone you know was hurt in a Saturn Sky made between 2006-2007 then you may be eligible for this compensation.
The personal injury attorneys of the Cochran Firm’s Washington, D.C. office are actively investigating these claims and are ready to fight for our clients. The time deadline to file a claim with GM has been extended to January 31st, 2015. Although you may be able to file an ignition switch claim after this deadline, we recommend contacting us at your earliest convenience in order to preserve your rights.
