Have You Been Injured by a Dangerous Gel Fuel?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of fire pot gel fuel products. Gel fuel is a pourable, clear, flammable gel that is commonly used in firepots, personal fireplaces, and outdoor patio torches such as Tiki torches.
Gel fuel poses a serious risk of burns and flash fires when consumers pour the fuel into a firepot that is already lit or is still hot or warm. It is difficult for consumers to see a gel fuel flame, especially when used during daylight hours. The fuel can suddenly ignite and spray onto people and nearby objects. Dozens of individuals nationwide have been injured by the products and sadly, even deaths have been reported.
Gel fuel products were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Napa Home & Garden, Restoration Hardware, and Shopko, Amazon.com, by landscapers, through home & garden catalogs, and other retail stores nationwide.
The CPSC issued a recall on pourable gel fuel from the following manufacturers:
Filing a fuel gel legal claim for your injuries can hold manufacturers of these dangerous products responsible for the serious damages they caused. The critical warnings on some of these products were inadequately placed on outside packaging that is often thrown away when the consumers opens the product. The civil justice system allows consumers who have been injured to hold corporations accountable for negligently failing to warn consumers of the serious dangers posed by the products they release into the marketplace.
Consumers have been injured when using gel fuel products while camping, in their backyards, and at sporting events. The burning gel can stick to a person’s skin after it exploded and can be hard to extinguish. Typical stop, drop, and roll procedures may not put out the fire. The National Fire Protection Association recommends using a dry chemical or baking soda to extinguish the fire.
