In recent years, car manufacturers have recalled products and published warnings about defective airbags:

• In Sept. 2013, Honda recalled 405,400 vehicles over a manufacturing defect in the electronics used in its airbag control systems, which could cause airbags to deploy inadvertently.
• In 2012, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of Snowpulse Avalanche Airbags, which are used for skiing, snowmobiling, and mountain climbing. Leaks were found in some of these airbags that could result in the airbag not deploying, which could pose a serious risk of death or injury.
• In Sept. 2013, Suzuki recalled almost 200,000 vehicles to address an airbag sensor defect that could cause airbags to improperly deploy during an accident, which could potentially put the vehicle passenger at risk.
• In April 2013, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and GM issue recalls for 1.3 million vehicles for “faulty airbags that could deploy and injure passengers.”
• In 2011, Ford Motors recalled 144,000 F-150 pickup trucks after a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report found 269 accidental airbag deployments.

Airbag Deployment Injury Claims

If your vehicle is involved in a moderate to severe accident, your airbag control system should cause the airbags to inflate. Side-impact airbags are supposed to inflate more quickly than front impact airbags because there is less space between you and the side of your car. Airbags deploy very rapidly and serious or even catastrophic injuries can occur if the vehicle’s driver or passenger is too close to the airbag when it deploys.
If there is a problem or defect with the electronics in your vehicle’s airbag control system, the airbag may deploy too quickly or to not deploy at all. Both of these possibilities put a vehicle passenger and driver at an unreasonable risk for serious injury.
