The Cochran Firm’s Statement on the Kathryn Johnston Case

A nationwide wrongful death law firm, including offices in Atlanta, GA

The Cochran Firm Atlanta addressed claims made in a press conference Thursday, June 10, 2010 by Interim Atlanta Police Chief George Turner:

First, the family of Kathryn Johnston is pleased that the Citizens Review Board and the Atlanta Police Department (APD) have finally completed their respective investigations.

Second, the findings of the Citizens Review Board and the APD are consistent with the conclusions of the investigation conducted by the family's attorney and the FBI over two years ago and confirm that the APD had a longstanding and widespread policy and practice of violating the civil rights of citizens of Atlanta, including Kathryn Johnston.

This is further confirmed by the numerous APD officers who have been jailed, suspended or terminated, like Carey Bond and Holly Buchanan.

The family of Kathryn Johnston is pleased to hear that the APD wants to mend the damaged relationship with the community that suffered because of the tragic death of Ms. Johnston.

However, true healing in this case will not occur until the City of Atlanta and the APD take full legal responsibility for its’ officers and the illegal practices that were the driving force behind the death of Kathryn Johnston.

Until that happens, the family will vigorously continue their fight in court to obtain full and fair justice to make sure that what happened to Ms. Johnston will never happen again in the City of Atlanta.

The experienced lawyers with The Cochran Firm Atlanta represent the family of Kathryn Johnston in the wrongful death case against Atlanta Police Department.
