David E. Haynes received his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994 with a double major in history and political science. He received his law degree from the University of Richmond in 1997. David is the managing attorney of the Washington, D.C. office of The Cochran Firm, which he joined when the office opened in 2002. His practice is devoted exclusively to the representation of individuals in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases and medical malpractice matters.

He has obtained numerous multi-million dollar recoveries for his clients as lead counsel through both verdict and settlement. David was recognized by the publication Virginia Lawyer’s Weekly as achieving one of the largest verdicts in Virginia in 2006, which was later upheld on appeal and collected. He regularly tries cases in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

David has significant experience handling a wide variety of complex matters, including cases involving commercial vehicle and trucking collisions, gas explosions, carbon monoxide poisoning, drowning, fires, inadequate security, medical malpractice, and police misconduct, among others.

David is licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. He is also admitted before the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

He is currently serving as co-liaison counsel on behalf of all Plaintiffs In Matter of the Fort Totten Metrorail Crash Arising Out of the Events of June 22, 2010, and as a member of the Plaintiff's Steering Committee in that action.

He is an active member of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C., where he serves on the Board of Governors and is co-chair of the Education Committee, the Maryland Association for Justice, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association for Justice, among other organizations.

David is active in the community and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Frederick B. Abramson Memorial Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization that provides scholarships for disadvantaged high school graduates going on to college, and fellowships for law school graduates who accept non-profit public interest positions.
