Olympus Scope Injury Claims
Here's what you need to know.
If you or a loved one underwent a scope-based medical procedure (such as an endoscopy, colonoscopy, or bronchoscopy) and later developed a serious infection or injury, you may be eligible to pursue compensation.
Certain Olympus scope devices have been linked to contamination risks that may expose patients to harmful bacteria and other complications. While these procedures are common, some patients have experienced unexpected and serious complications afterward.
Who May Qualify
You should contact The Cochran Firm if you or a loved one:
- Underwent a colonoscopy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, or similar scope procedure in 2015 or later
- Developed a serious infection, organ injury, or bloodborne illness within 30 days of the procedure
- Required hospitalization, IV antibiotics, ICU care, corrective surgery, or other serious medical treatment
Potential Injuries and Complications
Patients have reported a range of serious health issues following these procedures, including:
- Severe infections, including sepsis
- Bloodstream infections
- Drug-resistant infections (CRE, MRSA, E. coli)
- Pneumonia or serious lung infections
- New diagnoses of HIV or Tuberculosis following procedures
- Urinary tract infections that become severe
- Internal injuries, including bleeding or organ damage
These conditions may require urgent care and, in some cases, ongoing treatment.
Why These Cases Are Being Reviewed
Certain Olympus devices, including duodenoscopes and bronchoscopes, have raised safety concerns due to how difficult they can be to fully clean and disinfect. In some situations, this may increase the risk of bacteria or viruses being transferred between patients.
In more serious cases, hospitals have notified patients that they may have been exposed to contaminated equipment.
Strong Case Indicators
- Exposure or contamination notice from a hospital or provider
- Medical records identifying Olympus equipment or device models
- Positive lab cultures showing resistant pathogens
