BAKERSFIELD, CA-The Los Angeles law firm that represented O.J. Simpson now represents the family of a former NFL player shot to death Sunday by a Kern County Sheriff's Deputy.
A representative of the Johnnie Cochran law firm was in Bakersfield Tuesday afternoon. Attorney Brian T. Dunn says David "Deacon" Turner was killed for no legal reason and the county will have to answer for his death.
Meanwhile, Turner's son and daughter were both arraigned for allegedly threatening officers after they were told their father had died from his injuries.
"This family wants justice," said Dunn. "The shooting of an unarmed man is going to get the attention of this law firm where ever it happens."
Former NFL player, David Lee Turner was shot by a Sheriff's Deputy Sunday morning after buying beer at a gas station in east Bakersfield.
Authorities say Turner hit a deputy in the head with a bag containing two 24-ounce beer cans before being shot twice.
Shortly after the shooting, there was another confrontation at Kern Medical Center.
"Everybody was mad and saying 'f' the police," said Turner's cousin, Ledarrius Davis.
Davis was in court Tuesday as Turner's children Ahmad Rashad Turner, 25, and Whitney Turner, 24, were arraigned.
According to authorities, the Turner family became distraught when they were notified David had died at KMC Sunday morning.
Both Ahmad and Whitney were arrested for making criminal threats. Whitney was also cited for hitting a deputy in the face, which she denies.
"How can you take somebody to jail after losing their dad?" asked Davis.
Dunn says he's trying to get the Turner family some answers.
"The impact of this death has completely shattered this family to the core, and it's worse because they're not being told any details about what happened."
The Sheriff's Department says the investigation is ongoing.
