The Cochran Firm Atlanta attorneys Jane Lamberti, Shean Williams, Gary Andrews & Evon Williams recently obtained a $20.5 million verdict allocating 61% fault to Emory and 39% fault to DeKalb Emergency Medical Technicians. This verdict stems from a wrongful death lawsuit filed on behalf of Renee “Sunshine” Lewis and the family of Brandon Maurice Harris in DeKalb County State Court.
25-year-old Brandon Harris died January 23, 2010 during what should have been a routine sleep study at the Emory Sleep Lab, operated by Emory University Hospital and Neurocare, Inc.
The jury rendered a verdict for the plaintiff of $10,009,284.40 to the estate of Brandon Harris for pain and suffering and $10,500,000 for the full value of his life for a total of $20,509,284.40.
“This verdict sends a clear message about the value of Brandon’s life. It also establishes the standard of how a DeKalb County jury believes a sleep lab should safely operate,” said attorney Shean Williams.
“For the first time in five years, I’ve been able to sleep. All I’ve wanted since my beloved Brandon died is for someone to be held accountable for what happened to him. That day has finally arrived. Justice has been done for my precious Brandon,” said plaintiff Renee “Sunshine” Lewis.
“We’re so glad we got justice for Brandon and held Emory responsible for the mistakes made causing his tragic death,” said attorney Jane Lamberti.
The Jury deliberated four hours before reaching its verdict on Friday, September 25, 2015.
