One killed, one hundred injured in Hoboken, NJ train crash

Train crashes into Hoboken, NJ passenger terminalOne person died and over 100 were hurt after a commuter train jumped a bumper block and went through a passenger terminal at a Hoboken, New Jersey train station this morning. Victims aboard the train report the train never slowed down as it approached the striation, sending the train airborne into the depot.

An estimated 15,000 people travel through the Hoboken commuter station every day, mostly on their way to southern Manhattan. The crash suspended train service in and out of the station and those without vehicles were forced to take the bus to get into New York City or return home for the day.

Investigators looking into cause of Hoboken train accident

Government investigators from the Federal Railroad Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board immediately responded to the crash, trying to determine what exactly happened. Reports suggest emergency responders found the train’s engineer unresponsive and had to evacuate him.

11 others were transported to local emergency rooms but none of the injuries are expected to be life-threatening. Approximately 40 others were hospitalized but their injuries were minor, according to media outlets.
