Deonte Carraway, a former volunteer at Judge Sylvania W. Woods Elementary School in Glenarden, was arrested on February 5 by Prince George’s County police and charged with 10 counts of producing child pornography. Authorities have identified 18 victims so far, and that number is expected to rise as the investigation continues.
The victims ranged in age from nine to 13 years old. Authorities believe pornographic videos were produced on school grounds, at Glenarden Municipal Center, Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatic Center, and in private homes.

The Cochran Firm, D.C. has been contacted by families of children affected by this tragedy.
In response to the sickening allegations, the PG County school district placed the elementary school’s principal, Michelle Williams, on paid administrative leave while school district officials attempt to sort out exactly how such depraved acts on children could take place.
Furious parents want to know how exactly a man like Carraway could remain unsupervised with their children long enough to allegedly produce 40 pornographic videos. So far, school officials have been mum about whether or not suspicious behavior on Carraway’s part was reported to administrators.
Carraway was reported to almost always be in the company of young children. As both a volunteer at Sylvania W. Woods Elementary School in Glenarden and director of the Glenarden Voices of Youth Choir, Carraway was often in contact with vulnerable youths.
At least one parent close to the situation described Carraway’s company of children as “... a little strange.” Now, parents and community leaders want to know how such a person could slip through the cracks and be allowed such unfettered access to local children.
While volunteers and teachers must undergo background checks, Carraway’s record revealed no past encounters with police. Notwithstanding Carraway’s ability to pass a background check, the main question remains how could anyone be allowed unsupervised access to so many children for so long?
The child abuse attorneys of The Cochran Firm, D.C. take allegations involving the health and safety of children extremely seriously. As some of the most vulnerable members of our society, children should never be put in any situation where they may be in harm’s way.
Should these serious allegations turn out to be true, the suspect, his supervisors, and anyone who withheld knowledge of the events may be held both criminally and civilly responsible for these disgusting acts.
Our attorneys have years of experience standing up for the civil rights of the disenfranchised of our country and will aggressively pursue all legal options to bring Carraway and any other parties complacent in his behavior to justice.
