Virginia woman wins $110 million talcum powder cancer lawsuit

Jury holds J&J knew of ovarian cancer risks but refused to warn victims

A St. Louis jury recently awarded a Virginia woman $110 million over allegations pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J) knew its Baby Powder and Shower to Shower products could cause ovarian cancer but refused to warn consumers. The plaintiff’s lawsuit claimed she developed ovarian cancer, which spread to her liver after years of using baby powder and other talc-based products.

The Cochran Firm’s Washington DC personal injury lawyers currently represents several women claiming J&J’s talcum powder products caused their disease. We strongly encourage women diagnosed with ovarian cancer who used J&J talcum products to contact our office to determine if compensation is available.

In the past year and a half, juries across the country have handed down other significant verdicts to plaintiffs for the harm caused by J&J’s dangerous talcum powder products. In 2016, juries awarded $72 million, $55 million and $70 million to women stricken with ovarian cancer caused by J&J talcum powder, Baby Powder, and Shower to Shower.

How do I know if using talcum powder caused my ovarian cancer?

While every case is different, many talcum powder cancer cases share several common traits. Significant risk factors include using a talcum powder-based product for at least four-years with a diagnosis occurring from 2001 until the present day. Many women received their diagnosis between the ages of 30 to 65-years old.

In this latest case, the 62-year old mother of two received her diagnosis in 2012. According to reports, the plaintiff used J&J Baby Powder and Shower to Shower over four decades. The lawsuit further claimed asbestos, associated with the lung cancer mesothelioma, within the talcum powder caused the victim’s serious medical condition.
