Karen E. Evans, partner at The Cochran Firm’s Washington, D.C. office, was recently featured on the cover of East Carolina University’s alumni magazine. Evans’ story focuses on her lifelong goal of helping those in need, as well as her own rise from an undergraduate student at ECU to eventually becoming a partner at The Cochran Firm, D.C.
The article chronicles Evans’ time at ECU and the important people in her life who inspired her career path to fulfill her goal of helping others. Evans’ mother was a nurse growing up and after visiting ECU’s campus to see the university’s nursing program, she settled on East Carolina University.
While at ECU, Evans met her husband of 32 years and learned about the opportunities joining the military could provide for her. Evans joined the Air Force as a Lieutenant after graduation and gave six years of service to her country, eventually achieving the rank of Captain. It was during her time in the military that Evans became inspired to harness her skills as a nurse to become an attorney.
After graduating law school and spending five years as a medical malpractice defense attorney, Evans found her calling as an advocate for those hurt by negligence and medical malpractice. Evans joined The Cochran Firm, D.C. as a partner in 2013. In the ECU Alumni Magazine cover story, Evans remarks that her greatest accomplishments are her family and being able to help others. Karen Evans has recovered millions of dollars in verdicts on behalf of her clients and represents victims of medical negligence in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
